Akhshtirskaya cave was discovered in 1937 by a group of archaeologists from Leningrad led by Sergei Zamyatin. It is a small karst chamber in the rocky face of the right bank of the River Mzymta. The interior of the cave is 160 metres long, with the first 20 metres being a narrow entrance leading to two chambers up to 10 metres in height and 8 metres wide. Further on is a steep clayey slope upwards.
