The Pushkin City Library is the oldest library in Sochi. It was founded in 1899 to mark the 100th anniversary of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin on the initiative and monetary donations of the citizens.
Initially, it was located in the People's House of the Society for the Benefit of the Poor. At one time, it was the only educational institution in Sochi for the poorest segments of the population.
In February 1902, through the efforts of the members of the library, space was allocated for the construction of the building.
The building in the art Nouveau style was erected in 1912 on the donations from citizens.
On September 3, 1920, the Library was declared a state Library.
Currently,it is a branch of the Central Sochi Library.
The Pushkin Library building is the only cultural institution in Sochi that has been preserved since the pre-revolutionary times and has not changed its original purpose.
The architectural appearance of the building in the art Nouveau style fits well into the unique evergreen landscape of the park and is an architectural monumentunder the state protection.
In 2012, in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Library, the sculpture of A. S. Pushkin by sculptorPyotrKhrisanov was installed next to the Library building.
