The Film Festival will take place at the resort from the 11th to the 16th of December. SIFFA President Lubov Balagova commented that the deadline for the applications is November 10th, but so far, they selected only ten films out of the 800 ones that have been actually proposed.
Among them there are “Not Strangers” by Vera Glagoleva (Russia), "Boogie Man" by Andy Morahan (UK), "In Silence" by Ardak Amirkulov (Kazakhstan), "Wanderers of Patience" by Vladimir Alenikov (Russia),"Deep Rivers" by Vladimir Bitokov (Kabardino-Balkaria, Russia),"Interesting Life" by Anna Yanovskaya (Russia),"Rain Borders" by Vlastimir Sudar (Serbia/Bosnia and Herzegovina/Montenegro/Sweden/UK),"St. Catherine of Sinai" by Michael Redwood (UK), "Horizon" by Tinatin Kajrishvili (Georgia/Germany), "Brothers" by Omur Ataya (Turkey).
In total, the Festival competition program will include twelve full-length feature films, seven short films, and seven documentaries.
Sochi international film festival "Irida" main competition jury this year will be co-chaired by film director Mohi Kandur (UK), and People's artist of Russia and film director Elena Tsyplakova. Along with them the fiction films evaluation will be conducted by Honored Artist of Russia, singer Oksana Stashenko, film director and writer Elizabeth Blake-Thomas (the USA), and film producer Katerina Mikhailova.
Out of competition there will be a special presentation of a short documentary "In Memory of Dmitry Hvorostovsky And Elena Obraztsova" by Pavel Soro. Its first world run was successfully held on April 29 at London's Cadogan Hall, accompanied by The British Imperial orchestra conducted by Graham Jones. The soloist was The Honored Artist of Russia Larisa Rudakova (soprano), who will also perform in Sochi. The Russian presentation of the film will be accompanied by the Sochi Symphony Orchestra conducted by the Chief Conductor and Laureate of The Russian Government Prize Oleg Soldatov.
The signature moment of the coming international film festival in Sochi will be a new non-competing program "The Region in Focus", presenting the films shot in the North Caucasus.
In 2018, the festival, the emblem of which since its foundation has been graced with the image of the mythical sky bridge creator, the ancient Greek goddess of rainbow Irida, will be held under the auspices of the International Women's Movement.
